The Lived
Experience Project
Back to TLEP

A TLEP campaign film · 1 minute 43 seconds

Celebrated.
Embraced?

A campaign story about the gap between applauding lived experience and offering someone a real opportunity. It illustrates the message below; it is not a TLEP participant case study.

The visual story

  1. A man stands on a stage at an awards event. People applaud. The setting celebrates lived experience.
  2. After the event, he walks alone through the night. He returns to a sparse room and sits on the bed.
  3. At a community workspace, he welcomes and supports another man. They sit together, talk and share a warm moment outside.
  4. Wearing a supermarket uniform, he speaks with an older man among the shop shelves.
  5. Back in the sparse room, he looks at his phone. An application message reads: “Thank you for applying. On this occasion you have not been successful.”
  6. In the closing sequence, the room becomes a prison cell.

The contrast is the point: public recognition can sit alongside closed doors. TLEP is working towards useful skills, practical work and more choice about what comes next.
